Technology: A key enabler for energy transition towards a sustainable future

13 July 2021

By SAP @SAPIndia

SAP has made sustainability its long-term strategic goal and enables organisations to minimise their GHG emissions footprint. It believes in leading by example with the goal of being carbon neutral by 2023. With forty-five of the fifty top utilities companies in the world running SAP solutions, SAP is a leading force in helping utilities incorporate more clean energy into the grid. As the world transitions to a more sustainable, renewable and digital energy reality, SAP is providing the tools and empowering utilities, which are front and center in the global shift towards renewable energy sources, to successfully reinvent power generation, transmission, distribution and retail.

Energy efficiency

Reducing energy consumption leads to direct and indirect reduction in fossil fuel use. As 45 per cent of primary energy demand is linked to industrial processes, energy improvements impact both the bottom lines and the environmental footprints of companies.

SAP solutions help customers such as Martur Fompak International connect to industrial processes, gather data in real-time and provide possibilities to optimise processes as they run. Predefined content pinpoints areas of energy efficiency improvement.

Innovative solutions for renewable business models

Utility companies need innovative next-gen solutions to accelerate renewables adoption and associated opportunities for new business models and processes. SAP customers have had positive experiences: While ENGIE accelerated digital transformation, Canadian Solar made renewable energy solutions more profitable. Utilities are also charging ahead with the rollout of EV solutions.

SAP has partnered with seven start-ups to empower SAP Utilities customers to thrive in the renewable energy reality.

Sustainability reporting

Utilities are increasingly required to report CSR and sustainable development activities. They need to embed carbon emissions tracking and management into everything, everywhere, all the time – in operations, in supply chains, in products, even into employee activities. They can take faster and more responsible decisions while accounting for sustainability.

SAP is working on Enterprise SDG Impact Management Solution in collaboration with the United Nations.

The Climate 21 initiative aims to create comprehensive environment footprints and provide flexibility to reduce carbon footprints.
